“He’s a great man. I feel like I can talk with him for hours. Not even about baseball. About everything. If I have an issue, I will go to him and he will always have a great answer.” – Luis Severino, NY Yankees Pitcher
Pedro will never forget where he came from, or who supported him along the way. Whether appreciating the wisdom of his mother who instilled in him at a young age that flowers “teach you about how to be, how to live inside,” or honoring the only other Dominican who had entered the Hall of Fame thirty two years prior during his own induction by bringing him on stage to lift the Dominican flag together, Pedro will always celebrate his roots.
Pedro now sits in the mentor seat, like those who invested in him when his career was just beginning, coaching up and coming star athletes and encouraging teen players like he used to be. “I feel as a former player, as a Hall of Famer, my duty is to make the game better, to pass it along to the next generation. I’m not going to keep the knowledge within me. Not only is it my duty, but it’s a duty for everyone who plays the game.” – Pedro Martinez.
